For US facilities where floor space, workflow and hook coverage matter, Street Crane underhung systems combine proven British hoist engineering with local American supply and support. By specifying Street technology through our US distribution network, crane builders and end users can access dependable UK-engineered performance without adding unnecessary delay to the project.<\/p>\n

Underhung cranes are typically used in applications where the building structure\u2014most commonly roof trusses or rigid frames\u2014is capable of supporting the crane loads, or where extended hook coverage is required. The suspended runway design allows the load to travel beyond the runway centerline and closer to the building walls, increasing usable coverage within the facility.<\/p>\n

When supported by the overhead building structure, underhung crane systems can eliminate the need for floor-mounted runway columns and other obstructions. This opens the floor area, improves production flow, and enhances safety and accessibility throughout the facility.<\/p>\n

Street underhung cranes are available in singer girder or double girder construction and in either single or multi-span configuration.\u00a0 Street has a standard range of pre-engineered single span underhung cranes with spans up to 100′ <\/span>but our multi-span solutions can provide full hook coverage of buildings in excess of 300′ wide. Single Girder Underhung<\/h3>\n

Street single-span underhung traveling cranes are engineered using either rolled section beams or fabricated box girders, depending on required capacity and span. A variable girder connection design allows each crane to be optimized for maximum available hook height based on the specific application.<\/p>\n

The suspended end truck design allows for optional cantilevers (lateral overhangs), extending hook travel beyond the runway centerline. This feature increases usable hook coverage and improves material handling flexibility without modifying the building structure.<\/p>\n

Street underhung traveling cranes can be specified with a variety of operator control options, including an independent traveling festooned push-button pendant station or radio remote control.<\/p>\n

Street underhung travelling cranes may be equipped with either Street <\/span>ZX <\/span>electric wire rope hoists<\/span><\/a> or Street <\/span>LX <\/span>electric chain hoists<\/span><\/a> and most have capacities of 10 tons or less generally due to limitations of existing building support structures.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n

Double Girder Underslung<\/h3>\n

Street double-girder underhung traveling cranes feature two parallel main girders spanning the length of the crane, interconnected by rigid cross beams that provide structural stability and support the hoisting machinery. This configuration delivers improved load distribution, greater rigidity, and enhanced operational control compared to single-girder designs.<\/p>\n

The hoist trolley may be supported on the lower flanges of the crane girders or mounted on top of the girders using a top-running trolley hoist. When building elevation permits, the top-running configuration increases available hook height and maximizes lifting performance.<\/p>\n
