Featured Dealer:  Masco Crane
Masco has been manufacturing cranes since the company was founded by Dennis Beck in 1984. The company produce a complete line of factory cranes incorporating components and technology from Street Crane. Products range from workstation cranes, gantry crane sand jib cranes to overhead cranes of up to 100 tonnes, all custom-built for each client’s specific needs.

A new generation, brothers Steven, Chris and Matt Beck have plans to grow and develop the business further. “It’s all about understanding the special needs of the market and giving customers the tools that they need to do their job. That means more than just being the best price,” explained Steven Beck. “Oilfield development programmes are driven by deadlines. We have to deliver on time and are often under pressure to meet these target times in order for the clients to meet their schedules.”
“In our markets, reliability and serviceability are at an absolute premium, so cranes need to be engineered for minimal downtime to avoid costly interruption. Many of the ‘standard hoists’ from big brand names are just not suitable for the physical conditions and the mind-set of crane users here.”
Responding to the boom in business, the Beck brothers have acquired land and building adjacent to their existing plant. “This gives us an immediate doubling of floor space with additional land so that we can expand further as the need arises. We are increasing our stock of Street Crane hoists so that we can continue to respond quickly to client needs and supply crane kits to other crane and equipment manufacturers,” Matt Beck commented.
Oil related orders are down with the fall in the oil price, but this has not blunted the Beck brothers’ confidence in the long term future. Masco is a major supplier of the Alberta oil industry and is also a major supplier for the companies who support oil refining and upgrading. Despite the low oil prices, many developers have committed to new crane ready facilities to take advantage of the lower labour and construction costs during this economic downturn. Companies use this slow period to upgrade and install new equipment to put themselves in a good position when the oil prices increases.
Masco also provides all types of cranes in the manufacturing of heavy duty equipment to support the construction industry and for companies involved in the manufacturing of agricultural related products to support the strong agricultural and farming industry. The natural gas sector of Alberta is also a strong customer of Masco, having cranes in turbine facilities all across Alberta.
Masco Crane & Hoist has completed some significant projects in the past months in the Alberta region. The company recently supplied Liebherr Canada with a 30 ton Top Running Double Girder Crane, consisting of a 25 ton main and 5 ton auxiliary crab hoist from Street Crane. This project also included six, five ton travelling jib cranes that projected 25 feet. The travelling jib cranes are very rare in Canada, something many crane companies have never attempted to manufacture and supply in our area. Liebherr required a remanufacturing facility for mining machinery in a configuration that is very efficient. Masco along with Street were able to deliver.
Masco, this past month, also supplied an oil and gas vessel fabrication facility in Alberta with two – 20 ton top running double girder cranes and two – one ton floor mounted jib cranes, all complete with Street brand ZX and LX hoists. They are also currently completing two more projects for companies in Alberta, supplying a 15 ton top running double girder and two one-ton jib cranes for an oil and gas supplier and are also installing for a concrete pre-cast company with two 10 tonne top running double girder cranes and one – 20 tonne top running double girder crane.
