Heavy Industry Cranes for Manufacturing

Industry Applications

Reliable, precise lifting that keeps production moving

In manufacturing environments, lifting is part of the production process — not a separate activity. The right overhead crane system helps keep aisles clear, protects high-value materials and equipment, and supports efficient handling across assembly, fabrication, machining, maintenance, and machine build operations.

At Street Crane, we engineer manufacturing crane systems around the way your facility actually operates, from light workstation lifting to high-capacity bridge cranes designed for continuous industrial duty. Every system is specified to support safe material flow, reliable performance, and long-term operational efficiency.

Street Crane systems combine robust mechanical engineering with advanced Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) technology for smooth acceleration, controlled deceleration, and precise load positioning. The result is predictable crane movement, improved operator control, reduced mechanical stress, and dependable performance across demanding manufacturing environments.

With nearly 80 years of lifting expertise, Street Crane works closely with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to develop crane systems that support uptime, simplify maintenance, and deliver reliable long-term service.

Crane solutions for manufacturing

Manufacturing facilities often need more than a single crane type. You may be moving bulky fabrications between bays, positioning assemblies to tight tolerances, and supporting maintenance lifts, all within the same building and under the same uptime pressure.

Our engineers work with your operations, maintenance and procurement teams to map lifting into production flow, then specify the right mix of bridges, hoists and workstation systems to reduce handling time, improve safety, and protect long-term investment.

Overhead cranes engineered for manufacturing environments

Every Street Crane system is designed and manufactured in the UK, combining robust mechanical engineering with smooth, reliable motion control for demanding industrial applications.

Our ISO 9001-certified quality management system supports consistent manufacturing standards, while proven crane and hoist designs are engineered for long service life, simplified maintenance, and dependable long-term performance.

Key design considerations

Manufacturing lifts vary, not just in load, but in how the load behaves. A compact gearbox might need careful alignment at low speed, while a large welded frame needs stable travel with controlled sway. Each specification starts with capacity, duty cycle, hook approach and headroom, then moves into how you want the crane to work within your bays, work cells and fixtures. Where multiple cranes share a runway, or where lifts happen close to people and process equipment, we design in the right zoning and operational safeguards so handling stays controlled.

Advanced VFD-based control supports smooth acceleration and deceleration, micro-speed positioning and programmable motion where your process demands it.

That precision helps protect parts, improves placement accuracy, and reduces the risk of stoppages caused by rework, damage or unstable handling. Diagnostics and condition insight also make maintenance planning more predictable, which matters when cranes are supporting production every day.

Warehouse Overhead Crane Solutions

ZX single girder cranes

For day-to-day manufacturing lifts, ZX single girder top-running cranes provide a strong balance of capacity, coverage, and low maintenance, with lifting up to 25 tons. The braked gearbox hoist design and precision-ground, oil-immersed gearing support reliable operation and reduced service requirements, which is especially valuable when the crane is used across multiple shifts.

ZX double girder cranes

Where manufacturing loads increase, or where a higher top hook position is needed to make the most of limited headroom, ZX double girder cranes extend capacity up to 80 tons. They are well suited to heavier assembly, larger tooling, and multipoint lifting strategies, with the stiffness and control needed for confident positioning and placement.

ZX underhung cranes

In busy factories where full-span coverage is needed without introducing runway columns, ZX underhung cranes run on roof-mounted tracks and lift up to 25 tons. They are especially useful where clear floor layouts are required for work cells, machining centers, or internal logistics, and optional cantilever overhangs can extend reach beyond the runway line for improved workstation access.

VX heavy-duty cranes

Where manufacturing becomes truly demanding—with high loads, high duty cycles, and tight uptime requirements—VX open winch cranes provide heavy-duty capability up to 200 tons, with duty classifications up to M8 (CMAA Class F) and true vertical lift. The open-plan hoist layout supports faster access for inspection and service, helping reduce downtime risk in continuous-duty areas. This is where heavy industry cranes must earn their place—not by headline capacity, but by maintainability and performance under load.

Gantry and semi-gantry cranes

If your manufacturing site includes loading zones, external storage, or buildings that cannot support overhead runways, gantry and semi-gantry cranes deliver stable coverage without relying on roof structures. They are available from 1 ton to 200 tons, with options including rail-less semi-gantry’s (rubber tires running directly on the floor) to reduce civil work and eliminate trip hazards in certain layouts.

LX and LCS systems

For local handling that takes place frequently and close to the task, we often specify LX and LCS solutions alongside main bridge cranes. LX single girder top-running cranes lift up to 5 tons for compact, cost-effective lifting, while LCS workstation systems handle up to 2 tons in modular monorail or bridge layouts. This combination is ideal for assembly cells, packing, kitting, and maintenance tasks, and it helps keep main overhead cranes available for higher-value moves.

Jib and wall-travelling jib cranes

For repetitive lifts at a machine, bench, or station, slewing jib cranes provide fast, localized handling up to 20 tons, while wall-traveling jibs extend coverage along production lines up to 12.5 tons. They are a practical way to reduce travel time, improve ergonomics, and keep lifting close to the workpiece without interrupting main crane operations.

Making advanced lifting practical for manufacturing

Manufacturing operations require crane control systems that improve performance without adding unnecessary complexity.

Street Crane systems use advanced VFD-based controls to provide smooth, predictable crane travel and hoisting, with programmable speeds and motion profiles where repeatable handling and positioning are important.

When combined with the appropriate safety strategy — including zoning, anti-collision systems where required, operator visibility, and warning devices — these controls help reduce handling risk and support a safer production environment around personnel, fixtures, machinery, and high-value equipment.

Working as part of your manufacturing process

In a manufacturing environment, uptime is not just about the crane. It is about how lifting interacts with fixtures, jigs, machines, and the people who keep production moving. We design crane systems around your production flow, your building constraints, and your maintenance strategy, so handling stays smooth, predictable and safe shift after shift. VFD-based advanced control supports controlled acceleration, micro-speed positioning and repeatable load placement where accuracy matters, while the right safety approach, such as zoning, collision prevention where required, and clear operator control, helps protect people, plant and product. The result is lifting equipment that feels like part of the process, not an add-on to it.

Let’s design lifting that keeps your manufacturing process running smoothly

As a family-owned engineering business with nearly 80 years of lifting expertise, we focus on solutions that perform reliably year after year, backed by straightforward, practical support. If you’re planning a new manufacturing bay, a change in product mix, or an upgrade to existing lifting equipment, we’ll help you specify a system that fits your process, your building, and your maintenance strategy.
