Some recent apprentice stories

Will Elliott (28) has recently finished his apprenticeship, becoming a Production Electrician. After gaining a degree in zoology, he decided to retrain and start a new challenge.

He said: “After graduating, I changed my mind about my career. Some of my family members had worked for Street, so I knew a bit about the company and what it could offer. I did the SETA electrical course before joining Street. I was given a lot of responsibility from the start, getting involved in all types of electrical work as well as other areas including fitting cranes. I worked closely with two team leaders who mentored me and taught me everything I needed to know.

“I feel proud to have finished the scheme. It’s been hard work but I’ve really enjoyed it, particularly as there’s such a great atmosphere at Street. I’m now looking forward to pushing myself even further and developing my career.”

Elliott Kitson (20) is part way through his apprenticeship and is training to be a machinist.

He said: “I became interested in engineering after leaving school and read about Street via SETA. During my first month, I shadowed my mentor but was then trusted to do the job and prove myself. I was thrown in at the deep end but I was pleased to have been given the responsibility from an early stage. I’m really enjoying the physical work of my job and the team at Street – there are some great people here.”
