Restricted Height in Your Facility? The Underslung Crane Could Be the Solution.
An underslung crane is a crane mounted below a structure, allowing it to move along rails underneath. This design saves overhead space and is used in areas with limited headroom.
Street underslung cranes, also known as under-hung, under-running or suspension cranes are ideal for factories and warehouse facilities that require lots of free space with no obstructions. They make for flexible production flow and improve safety and accessibility when a process requires floor travelling vehicles as well as cranes.
This type of crane runs on track beams forming part of the building roof structure and so does not require supportive floor columns. The crane runs on the lower flange of the track beams, which are suspended from the roof or ceiling.
Street underslung cranes are available in singer girder or double girder construction and in either single or multi-span configuration. Street has a standard range of pre-engineered single span underslung cranes with spans up to 30 metres but our multi-span solutions can provide full hook coverage of buildings in excess of 100 meters wide. We manufacture underslung cranes with lifting capacities of up to 20 tonnes however our top selling models are 10 tonnes and less.
Street single span underslung travelling cranes are designed with rolled section beams or fabricated box beams depending on capacity and span. A variable girder connection design allows us to optimise the available height of lift in each application. The suspended end carriage design introduces the possibility of cantilevers (lateral overhangs) to provide increased hook coverage by allowing the hoist and load to travel beyond the runway track line. Street underslung travelling cranes can be specified with a variety of operator control systems including control from a push button pendant suspended from and mobile across the crane bridge or fully remote radio control. Street underslung travelling cranes may be equipped with either Street ZX electric wire rope hoists or Street LX electric chain hoists and most have capacities of 10t or less because of the limitations of supporting structures.
Street double girder underslung cranes have two main girders, or beams, that run the length of the crane. The girders are connected by crossbeams, which support the hoist. The hoist is the mechanism that lifts and lowers the load.
Double girder underslung cranes are more stable and can lift heavier loads than single girder underslung cranes. They are also more versatile, as they can be used for a variety of tasks, such as lifting and moving materials, assembling machinery, and installing equipment.
