5 Tonne Electric Overhead Travelling Cranes for SMIL

Street Distributor, Skyline Industries Delivers Hoist Solution for Pipe Manufacturer.

The Challenge

Sudhakar PVC Products operates an advanced extruder pipe manufacturing facility in Vikram Udyogpuri, Ujjain, India. Their production processes require the regular, safe, and precise handling of heavy dies and moulds used within their extruder machines.

To support continuous manufacturing, the client needed lifting equipment capable of handling loads of up to 5 tonnes with total reliability. Due to the layout of the facility, the solution also had to provide minimal headroom and reduced end approach, enabling efficient material loading and maximising the usable working area. Additionally, pipe manufacturing involves frequent loading and unloading cycles within confined spaces, making smooth operation and precise load placement essential.

The Solution delivered by Skyline Industries

To meet these requirements, Skyline Industries supplied six units of 5 tonne Street Hoist Single Girder EOT (Electric Overhead Travelling) Cranes, each engineered with an impressive 35 metre span to provide full coverage across the production hall.

Key features of the solution included:

Low‑headroom hoist design
Allows operation in restricted vertical spaces while providing maximum lifting height for handling heavy dies and moulds.

Minimum end approach
Enables the hoist to travel closer to the end of the bay, optimising every metre of available workspace and simplifying positioning on extruder machines.

Single‑girder construction
Offers a strong yet cost‑effective structure ideal for precise, repetitive load handling.

Customised for extruder applications
Each crane was tailored to provide smooth, safe, and reliable performance suitable for frequent loading and unloading cycles.

This configuration delivered a robust, space‑efficient, and production‑friendly solution fully aligned with the client’s operational needs.

Outcomes and Benefits

Improved Productivity

The cranes support fast and accurate die and mould changes, reducing downtime and keeping extruder lines running efficiently—critical in high‑volume pipe manufacturing.

Optimised Use of Space

Low‑headroom hoists and reduced end approach maximise vertical and horizontal workspace, allowing the facility to maintain an efficient layout without redesigning the building structure.

Enhanced Safety

Smooth, controlled lifting and travel motions reduce manual intervention and minimise the risk of accidents when handling heavy, precision tooling components.

Increased Uptime

Quick material loading/unloading meant less production stoppage and higher throughout.

Reliable, High‑Duty Performance

Street Hoists are designed for demanding industrial environments, offering robust, low‑maintenance operation suited to continuous production and frequent lifting cycles.

Precision in Confined Areas

Operators benefit from accurate load positioning, making it easier to safely manoeuvre dies and moulds within tight spaces around the extruder equipment.

"The installation of Skyline’s EOT cranes made our die and mould handling both simpler and safer, boosting efficiency in our manufacturing line."

M6 Duty 15 Tonne Double Girder Crane for SMIL

Automotive Manufacturing Company Trusts Street Hoists for Heavy Mould Handling.

The Challenge

Samvardhana Motherson International Limited (SMIL), formerly known as Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd, is one of India’s most prominent multinational automotive component manufacturers, operating across global markets from its headquarters in Noida. The company delivers an exceptionally broad product range, including wiring harnesses, rear‑view mirrors, interior and exterior moulded plastic components, bumpers, dashboards, door trims, complete polymer modules, rubber components, precision‑machined metal parts and injection‑moulding tools. As a trusted supplier to many of the world’s leading automotive OEMs, SMIL is recognised for its high‑volume, technically advanced production capabilities.

To maintain this level of performance, SMIL requires material‑handling equipment that can support continuous, high‑frequency manufacturing with absolute reliability. With production lines operating at scale and demanding consistent throughput, the company sought a partner able to deliver robust, efficient and adaptable lifting solutions. This is where Street Crane’s engineered lifting systems play a vital role—providing the strength, precision and durability SMIL needs to keep its global operations running smoothly.

SMIL needed robust heavy-duty cranes for handling moulds in its automotive component plants. The requirements included:

High-capacity double girder cranes for mould lifting and placement.
Reliable Street hoists rated for M6 duty to withstand continuous operation.
Custom crane structures to suit existing plant layouts and extended bay lengths.
A trusted partner for execution across multiple plant locations in India.

The Solution delivered by Visdil Ventures for Cranesmith

As Street Crane’s authorised hoist distributor in India, Visdil Ventures Private Limited partnered with Cranesmith Services Private Limited to deliver complete turnkey lifting solutions for SMIL across multiple manufacturing sites. The first phase of the project focused on SMIL’s North India facility, where the team supplied and commissioned a 15‑tonne double girder crane fitted with a Street ZX08 hoist rated to M6 duty. The smooth performance and reliability of this installation quickly established confidence with the customer, setting the foundation for further expansion.

Building on the success of Phase 1, Phase 2 involved supplying a 30/15‑tonne double girder crane for SMIL’s South India plant. This system incorporated both Street ZX10 and ZX08 M6‑duty hoists and was engineered to handle heavy moulds while accommodating a 30‑metre extended bay length. Key features delivered across both phases included high‑duty hoists designed for continuous, high‑frequency operation, custom‑engineered crane structures precisely integrated with SMIL’s facility layouts, and the proven reliability of Street technology under demanding production conditions. With Visdil Ventures providing the Street hoists and Cranesmith designing and executing the EOT structures, SMIL received a fully coordinated, end‑to‑end lifting solution.

Outcomes and Benefits

Following the successful delivery of both project phases, SMIL experienced several measurable improvements across productivity, safety, and operational efficiency.

Cross‑Regional Success

Strong performance at the North India plant led SMIL to place an additional order for its South India facility.

Enhanced Productivity

Faster, safer mould handling reduced downtime and improved overall throughput.

Operational Safety

Reliable Street hoists minimised risk during heavy‑mould handling, protecting both personnel and equipment.

Scalable Trust

SMIL’s decision to repeat and scale up the order reflects confidence in the Visdil–Cranesmith partnership and in Street’s hoist technology.
